10 Runs off One Ball, Both Batters Score Zero! Bangladesh Begins Its Innings Like This Against South Africa

In response to South Africa’s 575 runs in the first innings, Bangladesh began its batting with an unusual start, scoring 10 runs, though no Bangladeshi batter had actually scored yet.

In the first innings of the second Test against South Africa, Bangladesh immediately received 10 runs as they came to bat. However, none of the Bangladeshi batters scored those runs; instead, they were gifted the runs due to mistakes by South African players.

After South Africa declared their innings at 575 for 6 wickets, Bangladesh came out to bat. Kagiso Rabada’s first delivery was missed by Bangladesh’s opener Shadman Islam. However, Bangladesh was awarded 5 penalty runs due to a technicality. Then, on the second ball, the left-handed Shadman missed again, and the ball slipped behind him, evading South Africa’s wicketkeeper, who dived to the right but couldn’t stop it, leading to a boundary. At the same time, Rabada bowled a ‘no-ball’ on this delivery, adding another 5 runs to Bangladesh’s score. Consequently, Bangladesh managed to score 10 runs without a single contribution from the batters, earning all 10 runs off just one ball.

However, by the end of Day 2, Bangladesh was not in a comfortable position, standing at 38 for 4 wickets and trailing South Africa by 537 runs. Both openers Shadman (0) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (10) were dismissed early. Zakir Hasan (2), who came in at No. 3, couldn’t score much either, and No. 5 batsman Hasan Mahmud was out for 3. At the end of the day, Mominul Haque (6), batting at No. 4, and Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (4), batting at No. 6, remained not out at the crease.
